Evolutionary Computation and Applications
Researcher
Associate Professor David Greiner belongs to the Institute of Intelligent Systems and Numerical Applications in Engineering (SIANI) of the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), Spain. He studied Industrial Engineering (Mechanical) and Doctorate in Intelligent Systems and Numerical Applications in Engineering (phD), both by ULPGC.
He has currently supervised 5 doctoral theses and has been accredited with 3 six-year research periods and 4 five-year teaching periods. His research publication record (since 1995), focused mainly in optimum design in engineering applications using evolutionary algorithms, covers more than 150 papers published, including JCR journals, books (Springer, CIMNE) and book chapters, and papers in national and international conferences. He has been involved in several national and international research projects and contracts (including INGENET research network funded by European Union, 1997-2002), being currently principal investigator of a project of the Ministry's national plan, as well as acting as peer reviewer in several JCR journals (around 300 reviews in Elsevier, Springer, Taylor & Francis, Emerald, IEEE, etc.). He has served as General Chairman in the international conferences: ECCOMAS Thematic Conference EUROGEN 2013, in the Spanish-French School “Jacques-Louis Lions” on Numerical Simulation in Physics and Engineering - EHF 2018, and in the Congress on Numerical Methods in Engineering - CMN-2022 of the Spanish scientific societies SEMNI and Portuguese APMTAC, all of them in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He has also been and is a member of the scientific and/or programme committee of more than 50 international conferences (ECCOMAS Thematic Conference Eurogen, CMN, GECCO, IEEE, Civil-Comp Press Conferences, etc.), as well as organising thematic sessions and mini-symposia. He presented a Bronze Award winning paper on Human Competitive Results - Humies at GECCO 2025.
He has served also as Vicedean of Mobility Programs (2007-2010) and Vicedean of Postgraduate Studies (2011-2013) at the Industrial and Civil Engineering School-ULPGC, and Secretary of the Institute of Intelligent Systems and Numerical Applications in Engineering (SIANI) (2014-2017). From 2017 to 2021, has served as Director of Scientific Organization and Promotion of Research at the Vicerrectorate of Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer of ULPGC.
